Today I peeled off a 10 miler in hopes to see some improvements in my run times. I have been running without any feedback over the past month as I was starting to get frustrated with the numbers. Today was a beautiful day in Denver! A high of 64 degrees made for an awesome day to race!
I have not done this course before and it was a little hillier than I expected. There were several areas covered with snow and ice which caused me to slow. I am a chicken now about going down! I did not look at my average pace until I finished... simply because I was running as hard as I could on a tired leg. I did watch my heart rate as it was lower than typical for a race of this distance. The bottom line is, my leg will only allow me to run so fast.. So often I can't tap into what my central system is capable of still.
I finished with an 8:40 pace and a 1:26:50 finish, 7th age group. I am pleased with this time as the pace continues to drop, little by little. That is all I'm asking for.. and it's happening :-).
I finished up the day with an 1.5 hour ride. I was actually very surprised with the way I rode. It wasn't fantastic, but much stronger than I had anticipated. I am starting to feel like an athlete again.... and it feels good!
Enjoy your training! =)
