The Greatest Part about my Season Opener was not about the WIN...

This race was thrown in my schedule very last minute; 6 days out. After finishing up last year at Clearwater World Championships, I had been watching the USAT standings very closely. I was well in the mid pack of the Honorable Mention All American category for my age group. As USAT continued to work on finalizing results, my standings continued to rise. Well about a week ago, they published the final and I was just skirted out of the top 10% of my age group. This wasn't too big of a deal for me, except now I was left needing to qualify for my A race which was Age Group Nationals this summer. So Melissa and I decided this would be a good race to blow out the cob webs.
This was by far the craziest swim I have ever experienced in all my racing... I thought I was in an IM start... I knew coming out of the water I was going to need to make up some serious time and so I just got to work..
Lets' start from the finish now. As I was already running my little heart out, I came upon one women in sight that I was attempting to reel in. I didn't think I was going to with only 3/4 mile left until I saw... 35 on her leg. I thought to myself, "oh crap" I didn't know if I had the juice to do it. I also knew that I couldn't pass too soon and I couldn't wait too long. My rationalization was as such... If I don't pass her, I'm second, If I do pass her and collapse before the finish, I'm still second. So if I try, I just might and could win~! So I did, and I won and secured my spot for AG Nats. But the better part of the whole day is the fact that I biked 23 MPH on the bike... and I ran 6:58 miles on the run!!! I broke the 7 minute barrier...first time ever! Off my FASTEST bike ever! That was the beauty of the day... and is a great way to start off my season! POW!

And I can't forget to mention... the LOVE FOR TIMEX people have out there. This was my first time racing for Timex... I got cheers and support from the crowd and race crew...like no other... =)
