USAT Sprint National Championships

Another year in Burlington, Vermont for the USA Triathlon National Championships.  It is a beautiful little college town that feels like you are almost in Canada as it is not an easy place to get to.  It doesn't hold the crowds very well for a race of this size either, but when it all slows down, its really a lovely place.

This year I had the pleasure of traveling with two of my Elite athletes. Zara will take her Professional License in the near future and Alex has been picked up by the USA Triathlon Collegiate Recruitment program. We are having a blast together as we move towards the hope of Rio 2016 Olympics.

Being able to support them during the AG Nationals Olympic race was great. It gives me the opportunity as their coach to really observe and dissect out things that can be improved on in the race environment.  This day provided ample opportunities for some great take home lessons.  We were able to attend another USA Triathlon Clinic and work with other athletes with the same talent and goals.

And for my race! I had a bit of a hectic swim in that I swam a bit off course and lost the front pack.  I sighted back to the first buoy rather than the home buoy at the turn, but fortunately, I quickly ran into someone head on and  that prevented me from loosing any more than about 30 secs I believe.  I had a solid bike and a great run.  I have been working on the run for quite some time as it is a doozy of a 5k! Nothing fast about it!  After a 7 min course improvement from last year, I dropped 10 spots. YIKES! Yes, last year I was 15th, this year 25th.  I am keeping my fingers crossed for a roll down spot to London.  They take top 18 and roll down to 25. The field got a little stronger this year, wouldn't ya say?! Enjoy your training =)
