Last week I had another appointment with P.E. After some more progressive testing, as I was feeling that the hamstring was still not as strong as it should be at this point, he discovered a significant weakness in my Glut. I thought to myself... "Really?" But then I thought "Yay! We can fix this!" After some discussion with Melissa, we were going to move in the direction of getting the Gluteus Medius firing with the hamstring and strengthening it. Well, P.E. corrected us and said.. "it's not the Medius that is the issue, it is the Maximus." WOW.. was my first reaction. With all my experience in Sports Medicine, very rarely is the Maximus the culprit. It is such a big muscle and it just does what it is supposed to do =).
I will focus strengthening this area primarily when my season is over in November, but we started with some light body weight exercises and I CAN'T BELIEVE how weak that side is. My run times are dropping even though I still have many imbalances in that leg. It fuels me like gasoline, knowing I am going to get back to where I want to be!
Enjoy your training =) ~T
