Well, one month after St. Anthony’s, I raced close to home in Longmont, Colorado. The Summer Open is probably become my favorite Sprint race locally. This is the second year I raced it and Race Director Lance Panigutti with Without Limits Productions once again put on a fantastic race. I love the venue, course and post race festivities. At the finish I had a Mix 1 waiting for me as well as a bread choices and sandwiches from Great Harvest. In my book, it doesn’t get any better than this!
I always love to race, but was super excited for this race to see what improvements I’ve had in a month since my last race. Right now, my expectations are low as I have to be patient with the leg. Well, it turned out to be a pretty darn good day! I didn’t have the most flawless swim; still some kinks with swimming a straight arrow for me this early in the season. I was still a minute faster than last year. The bike was a touch windier than last year and I pulled out just about a minute or two slower than last year. What I was very happy about was the run! My leg felt relatively good coming off the bike! At St. Anthony’s it felt like… well… pooh. I clipped along swallowing hard as I got passed by a few but reminded myself, ‘it is a season for rebuilding’. I continued to run as fast as my leg would let me and came in about 3 minutes slower than last year. I was ok with this because my leg is FEELING so much better! After glancing over at the results, I was delighted to see after winning my age group last year… I still squeaked out a third place finish. WAHOO! Wasn’t expecting that one!
It was a great day as I was surrounded by some of my extended family or in other words, Clients =) that had great races as well. It was great to be greeted by the Timex Ford Flex at the finishline; an extension of my Timex family and to race with Tim Hola, Timex Team mate. A big thanks my client Gary Netherland for the photos.
Enjoy your training =) www.tristafrancis.com
