I have been waiting for the snow here in the Denver area to melt off so I could start getting back into trail running. I enjoy trail running but haven't been able to venture out much until recently due to the lack of responsiveness in my Hammy. On the morning of New Years Eve, I called up my friend Julie Lyons and said... "Let's hit the bluff, girl!" and she was game.
When we arrived, I could not believe how much snow was on this completely exposed trail. It has been weeks since it snowed, but the abnormally cold temps have kept a lot of snow around for a long time! We looked at eachother and said.. "Oh well, we are here, right?"
We headed out on a hilly 7 mile snowy trail run. Well, I can honestly say, I have never ran in so much snow, and it was probably one of the funnest runs I have done in awhile. Julie and I took turns chatting while catching up since the craziness of the holiday's had kept us from our frequent chats and before I knew it, we had about 10 minutes left. I also had realized how tired my legs were at this point! I thought to myself, this was probably some good prep for my first snow shoe race coming up on Jan 10. As those are more strength workouts than speed.. as proved to be true on the snowy bluff.
Get out there and do something different. You will smile more, get stronger, and have a renewed sense of accomplishment.
Enjoy your training =)
