Rock Canyon Half Marathon 2008

First Annual Battle of the Ages!
I headed out with my two sisters, their husbands and some special friends (yes Sean, that is you) to run a great off season Half in Pueblo, Co, our hometown. It was all for fun until my nephew Caleb and his friends wanted to beat all of us "older people". They were training the Death March in April and were using this as training. We decided to put in cross country team rules to go with the top four finishers times. Well needless to say, time does not only bring wisdom, but SPEED too! We won! Our top 4 were Nathan, Sean, Brad and myself. There only contender was Jared and I'm not really sure who came in after that; Kyle then Caleb maybe.
I had an interesting race as this is truly the first race I have ever done that I had not been "prepped" for. I didn't really like this feeling. I guess I like to race to compete... at least against me. I had no expectations but am glad I still came in well under the 2 hour mark. This is not a fast course and I definately won't wear the racing flats again on the rocky trail. I held a sub 8min/mile pace until about mile 6 and then began to slow. I came in at 1:51:32... just a few seconds slower than Clearwater. I placed 10th age group and was happy with this as I hadn't run much the last month, let alone anything longer than 5 miles.
